”An expectation that things can change” - internally and externally - requires such hope and bravery that it can make prayer uncomfortable, and maybe that’s why my own prayer life is disorganized and scant. My prayers come forth naturally when I am looking for comfort or reassurance - but it perhaps requires some maturity to pray with a belief that God can change things, and perhaps might want me to be part of that action in the world. (Also: ”soul-screaming” - what a phrase!)
